Himadri aims to transform Birla Tyres into a ₹3,000-crore growth driver with EV-focused expansion

Himadri Speciality Chemicals unveils a strategic expansion plan for Birla Tyres, targeting a ₹3,000-crore business through new premium products, export focus, and a shift into electric vehicle tyres, as it moves beyond recovery into accelerated growth.

Himadri Speciality Chemicals has drawn up an expansion plan that it says could turn Birla Tyres into a ₹3,000-crore business, with the subsidiary set to lean on premium products, exports and tyres for electric vehicles as it moves beyond recovery and into growth. The strategy comes as the company sharpens its diversification drive, with Birla Tyres now positioned alongside advanced battery materials and speciality chemicals as a key business line.

According to the company’s investor presentation for the quarter ended June 30, Birla Tyres plans to add almost 400 stock-keeping units across agriculture, commercial vehicles, truck and bus, and newer categories. Himadri Speciality Chemicals chairman and chief executive Anurag Choudhary said the company also intends to enter passenger car radial tyres, especially for EVs and sport utility vehicles, with a dedicated plant targeted for FY28.

The target marks a sharp jump from the ₹187 crore Birla Tyres generated in FY26, a year in which the brand returned to business after its long slump. Himadri acquired the tyre maker in 2023 under an insolvency resolution plan for ₹347 crore, and the business is now a wholly owned subsidiary. The acquisition followed approval of a joint resolution bid with Dalmia Bharat Refractories, according to earlier reporting by LiveMint and Outlook Business.

Choudhary said the focus has moved from restarting operations to scaling them. The company is modernising infrastructure and shifting output away from truck and bus tyres towards higher-margin off-the-road tyres, which are used in agriculture and construction. During the first quarter of the current financial year, the business expanded its reach to 49 distributors, including nine overseas partners, and more than 1,000 dealers.

Birla Tyres has also begun widening its product range, including new sizes under its AGRILEAP T40, AGRIPLUS and AGRIWIN lines. Himadri says the next phase will rely heavily on exports of agriculture and OTR tyres, as well as the planned move into the passenger car radial segment, where the company is aiming at replacement demand and EV-linked growth. Separate industry reporting has said the company is considering about ₹250 crore of investment in that category.
