State Bank of India has announced 1,538 clerk positions with an extended online application window open until August 2026, drawing attention to the sought-after entry-level banking role amid updates to the selection process and salary details.
State Bank of India has opened applications for 1,538 clerk vacancies, with the online window running on the bank’s careers website, sbi.bank.in, until August 27, 2026, according to India TV News. The recruitment is drawing attention because the clerk role remains one of the most sought-after entry-level banking jobs in India, offering a salary band that the report says runs from ₹24,050 to ₹64,480, with take-home pay varying by city and allowances. The bank says candidates should complete the form online, upload the required documents, pay the fee and keep a copy of the submitted application for their records.
Eligibility is broadly straightforward. Testbook says applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university and be between 20 and 28 years old, with age relaxations available for reserved categories. The same guide says no minimum percentage is required in graduation, while nationality and other basic conditions also apply. India TV News likewise says candidates should check the official notification carefully before applying.
The selection process is expected to move in stages. Testbook and Ignite Exams both describe a preliminary test followed by mains, while Ignite Exams says candidates who cannot prove proficiency in the local language through their Class 10 or Class 12 records may also have to clear a local language proficiency test. Testbook says the exam pattern includes English language, numerical ability and reasoning at the preliminary stage, with general or financial awareness, English, quantitative aptitude, reasoning and computer aptitude in mains.
Some online guides differ on whether there is any interview stage, but most of the material available on the 2026 recruitment points to a written-exam-led process for clerical selection. AspirantMitraa also advises candidates to be careful when uploading documents and to avoid simple errors such as incorrect photograph sizes or category details, as such mistakes can delay or derail an application. For now, SBI’s official portal remains the key reference point for the latest recruitment notice and application steps.
