Tata Motors plans significant expansion of its passenger vehicle range, aiming for 15 models by FY31, including six new vehicles and a focus on electric mobility with new SUVs and a premium Avinya family.
Tata Motors is preparing a major expansion of its passenger vehicle line-up, with plans to reach 15 nameplates by FY31 as it broadens its range across electric and conventional powertrains. According to GaadiWaadi and other industry reports, the programme includes six all-new models and more than 20 facelifts, refreshes and feature upgrades, signalling a steady run of launches over the next five years. The strategy is intended to give the company a wider presence in a market that is becoming more competitive and more segmented.
Electric vehicles will account for a significant share of the push. Industry reports say Tata is likely to add a Safari EV after the Sierra EV, with the three-row electric SUV expected to share hardware with the Harrier EV and offer dual-motor all-wheel drive. A seven-seat electric MPV is also being considered for India, where it would compete with upcoming offerings from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota as well as the Kia Carens Clavis EV. Tata’s investor material has also shown two unnamed future silhouettes, one of which may be an SUV.
At the premium end, Tata’s Avinya family is expected to become a central part of the brand’s electric future, with production due around mid-2027, according to reports. The company is said to be moving away from the original concept’s planned architecture and towards a different platform derived from the Freelander EV programme linked to Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. Reports also suggest Tata is exploring a separate retail approach for Avinya-badged products, with a sportback among the body styles being considered. Beyond battery power, Tata has indicated that petrol, diesel and alternative-fuel vehicles will remain part of its portfolio, while the next-generation Nexon is already in development in both internal-combustion and electric form.
