Scammers are copying TikTok Shop’s appearance to create convincing fake storefronts, risking buyer fraud, identity theft, and malware infection. Experts warn consumers to stay vigilant when shopping through the platform.
TikTok Shop is a genuine feature inside the TikTok app, but that has not stopped scammers from copying its look and using it as cover for fake storefronts. According to Malwarebytes, these clone sites borrow the platform’s colours, layout and reassurance language so convincingly that they can pass a quick glance, even though they are separate websites with no verified link to TikTok.
The appeal is obvious to fraudsters: if a site appears to offer the same trust signals as the real marketplace, some shoppers will lower their guard. Malwarebytes says the copied pages often mimic labels such as “curated products”, “trusted sellers” and “secure service”, along with badges suggesting seller verification, local delivery and after-sales support. But none of those claims amounts to real platform oversight, and the buyer is left dealing with an unknown shop that could simply take payment and disappear.
Other security guides say the problem goes beyond lookalike shopfronts. Gridinsoft warns that TikTok-linked scams also include counterfeit goods, fake deals and off-app checkout links, while ScamAdviser says the platform itself is legitimate but has become a target for more sophisticated retail fraud. ScamMirror and Omniwatch add that some bogus stores use low prices, impersonated brands or creators and requests for sensitive information to lure customers in, with the danger rising sharply when a site asks for identity documents or banking details alongside a purchase.
TechRadar has also reported on more aggressive campaigns that use fake TikTok Shop pages to push malware, including bogus wallet payments and fraudulent affiliate apps. That makes the risk broader than a missed delivery or a stolen card number: depending on the scam, victims could also end up with spyware on their devices or exposed personal data. Malwarebytes advises shoppers to use TikTok Shop only from inside the official app, check web addresses carefully, avoid checkout offers that include loans or credit lines and pay by credit card where possible so disputes are easier to make if something goes wrong.
