Paytm integrates Claude to enable conversational payment data access for businesses

Paytm Payment Gateway has incorporated Anthropic’s Claude via the Model Context Protocol, allowing merchants and teams to retrieve transaction, refund, and settlement data through natural-language prompts, marking a shift towards more intuitive financial workflows.

Paytm Payment Gateway has added support for Anthropic’s Claude through the Model Context Protocol, giving businesses a more conversational way to pull up payment information. According to Techlomedia and Claude’s connector page, merchants can now query data such as transactions, refunds, settlements and reconciliation details with natural-language prompts rather than clicking through several dashboard screens.

The integration works by linking a merchant’s Paytm Payment Gateway account to Claude through an authorised MCP connector. Once connected, users can ask for the status of a payment or refund, review order information or check settlement details in plain language. Claude’s own connector listing says the tool is aimed at merchants, developers and operations teams that need faster access to payment data.

Paytm says the connector can surface information on transactions, payment links, refunds, settlements, subscriptions, order status and reconciliation. That makes it potentially useful across a business: support teams can confirm whether a payment has gone through, while finance staff can use the same assistant to review settlements and match records.

The bigger significance is not just convenience but the way it changes how payment systems are accessed. For years, payment gateways have relied on dashboards, reports and application programming interfaces, or APIs, to expose data. MCP adds a conversational layer on top, allowing an AI assistant to fetch the relevant information while the underlying payment infrastructure remains in place.

Paytm also appears to be drawing a clear line between access and control. The company says merchants keep authority over authentication and permissions, while execution of payments, refunds and settlements continues through its existing systems. That distinction matters as businesses experiment with AI tools in financial workflows, where visibility is useful but unrestricted control would raise obvious risks.

The integration is being positioned for entrepreneurs, developers and finance and operations teams, with smaller firms likely to value quicker answers and larger organisations able to fold it into broader AI-driven support and reconciliation processes. Paytm says the connector is now available, though it has not disclosed whether there are any extra fees or limitations.
