Vedanta Power’s latest quarterly update shows a mixed picture with a net loss despite revenue growth, prompting investors to weigh whether the decline presents a buying opportunity or warning sign amidst ongoing market pressure.
Vedanta Power’s latest quarterly update has left investors weighing whether the recent weakness in the stock is a buying opportunity or a warning sign. The shares ended Friday, August 7, down 0.84% at ₹35.47 on the BSE, leaving the company with a market capitalisation of ₹13,870.15 crore after trading between ₹35.31 and ₹36.33 during the session, according to Goodreturns.
The pressure on the stock followed first-quarter numbers released after the demerger. The company reported a consolidated net loss of ₹423 crore, compared with a profit of ₹88 crore in the same quarter a year earlier, while revenue from operations rose 31% to ₹2,607 crore from ₹1,986 crore, Moneycontrol’s financial data showed. The results suggest that top-line momentum remains intact even as one-off costs weighed on earnings.
Despite the setback, the business still has several structural supports, including long-term power purchase contracts covering 74% of capacity, domestic coal linkages for 85% of supply needs, cash of ₹1,130 crore and improved credit ratings, according to the company’s disclosures. Management expects the revival of Sakti Unit 1 in the second quarter of FY27 and the addition of a roughly 600 MW Unit 2 by the fourth quarter of FY27, developments that could help restore profitability. But market analyst Mayank Jain of Share.Market by PhonePe warned that the chart still shows sustained downward pressure and said retail investors should avoid trying to pick a bottom before the trend stabilises.
