Eligible EPS-95 pensioners can have a postman or Gramin Dak Sevak complete Aadhaar-based verification at home, with EPFO covering the cost when the certificate is successfully accepted.
Pensioners covered by the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995 can now file their annual digital life certificate from home without paying a fee, after a tie-up between the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation and India Post Payments Bank. According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the arrangement was set out in a memorandum of understanding signed on 3 November 2025, took effect on 1 December 2025 and was followed by an EPFO circular on 9 January 2026.
The service is aimed at making annual verification easier for retirees, especially those who struggle to travel to banks or EPFO offices. Under the scheme, a postman or Gramin Dak Sevak can visit an eligible pensioner’s home and generate the certificate using Aadhaar-based face authentication or fingerprint biometrics. Reports in The Economic Times and other publications said the move is designed to improve access for pensioners in rural areas as well as those with limited mobility.
To use the facility, pensioners can contact India Post Payments Bank customer care on 033-22029000, speak to a local postman or Gramin Dak Sevak, or visit the nearest post office for help. They should keep their Aadhaar details and pension payment order information ready for verification. The postal worker then checks whether the life certificate is due and submits it through an authorised doorstep banking device.
EPFO will meet the cost of the service, but the free arrangement applies only when the digital life certificate is successfully generated and accepted under the prescribed procedure. Pensioners are advised to keep the acknowledgement or reference number issued during the process and to confirm that the submission has been approved, as a home visit alone does not guarantee acceptance.
