Airline executives and aviation safety agencies are due to face lawmakers on November 2 as India examines the performance and oversight of its civil aviation sector.
Representatives from Air India, IndiGo and India’s aviation safety agencies are due to face a parliamentary panel on November 2 as lawmakers examine the performance of the country’s civil aviation sector public undertakings. According to a notice issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the session will be held before the 22-member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Undertakings, which is chaired by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Baijayant Panda.
The committee is expected to hear from officials of Air India Limited and InterGlobe Aviation, which operates as IndiGo, on the subject of “Review of Performance of Civil Aviation Sector CPSUs”. The same day, representatives of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security are also scheduled to appear, underscoring that the review will extend beyond airline operations to safety and security oversight, as reported by Business Standard and echoed in coverage by other Indian business outlets.
The hearings come at a time when India’s aviation market remains under close scrutiny, with Air India in the middle of a wider restructuring effort and IndiGo continuing to dominate domestic traffic. By bringing airline executives and regulators before the same committee, parliamentarians are likely seeking a fuller picture of how public-sector aviation bodies are performing and where policy or operational changes may be needed, though the precise focus of the questioning has not been disclosed in the notice.
The committee’s work is separate from other parliamentary business scheduled for the same week. Another Lok Sabha Secretariat notice said eminent economists will meet a joint committee on October 30 as part of its examination of the Constitution Amendment Bill linked to simultaneous elections and a separate bill dealing with Union territory laws.
