India’s tax portal now lets deductors prepare and submit TDS statements online, while retaining the existing RPU-based upload process and expanding access to filing status and credit details.
India’s TRACES portal has added a direct online route for filing TDS statements, giving deductors a way to prepare and submit returns inside the platform rather than building a file in the Return Preparation Utility and uploading it separately, according to the guide published on HSS Live. The update is aimed at making tax compliance less cumbersome, while still leaving the traditional RPU-based process in place for users who prefer it.
The new facility is designed to shorten the filing workflow and make it easier to monitor what happens after submission. The portal can be used to check the status of statements already filed, and it also provides access to TDS and TCS credit details, which are important for reconciling tax deductions against a taxpayer’s records. Industry guides on TRACES note that the portal has become a central hub for services such as viewing Form 26AS, downloading certificates and checking compliance-related information.
Coverage of the upgraded TRACES 2.0 platform by Livemint and other tax-focused publications suggests the Income Tax Department has been pushing the system towards a more user-friendly interface, with clearer navigation and easier access to statement and credit information. Guides from eGovtSchemes, Paisabazaar, IndiaFilings, TaxBuddy and Professional Utilities all describe TRACES as a broader compliance tool for deductors and taxpayers, supporting tasks such as statement corrections, challan checks, registration and login, and downloads of key tax forms.
For deductors, accountants and tax practitioners, the practical significance is that the portal now offers two routes: direct online submission or the established RPU method. The HSS Live guide says users can consult the help file provided with the new facility for step-by-step instructions before filing. That flexibility may be useful for organisations handling frequent TDS compliance, especially where speed, tracking and access to credit data matter most.
