Tata Elxsi reported 15% annual revenue growth and wider operating margins in the second quarter, although profit fell short of market forecasts as investors weigh the durability of its recovery.
Tata Elxsi reported a stronger second quarter as higher demand across its core businesses lifted both revenue and profit, even though earnings came in below some market expectations. The design and technology services group said net profit rose to ₹170.30 crore in the July-to-September period, up from ₹154.82 crore a year earlier, while revenue from operations increased 15% to ₹1,055.66 crore. Profit after tax was also broadly flat compared with the previous quarter, underlining that the latest improvement was driven more by sales growth than by a sharp jump in margin expansion.
Operating performance improved as well. The company said EBIT increased to ₹208 crore and the EBIT margin widened to 19.7% from 19% in the previous quarter. Other disclosures pointed to a healthier underlying trend, with EBITDA margin at about 21.9%, while total income rose more slowly than revenue, suggesting weaker contributions from non-core items than a year earlier. Revenue growth was broad-based, with media and communications, healthcare and life sciences, and transportation all advancing sequentially.
Manoj Raghavan, chief executive and managing director, said the margin gains reflected efficiency measures across the business and added that the company expects growth to carry through into the second half of FY27 as it continues to invest in AI-first offerings. According to the company’s update, media and communications benefited from existing programmes being scaled up and new work linked to generative AI, healthcare picked up on turnkey product engineering and digital health contracts, and transportation gained from automotive clients as well as new aerospace and defence business. Analysts and market trackers also noted that the quarterly profit result landed below estimates of about ₹180 crore, even as the wider revenue picture remained constructive.
The quarter offered some evidence that Tata Elxsi is recovering from a softer stretch earlier in the year, when the company had faced pressure in its automotive and media operations. Shares had already risen ahead of the announcement, closing 5.21% higher at ₹3,426.70 on the NSE on Tuesday before results were released after market hours. Investors will now be watching whether the company can maintain its sequential margin improvement and turn fresh wins in aerospace, defence and healthcare into steadier growth in the second half.
