India has prolonged its export tax refund scheme, RoDTEP, for three additional months until December 2026, ensuring continued support for exporters amid volatile global demand and geopolitical challenges.
India has extended its export tax refund scheme, known as RoDTEP, for three more months to 31 December 2026, keeping reimbursement rates and value caps unchanged. The move gives exporters another short period of policy continuity at a time when overseas demand remains uneven and shipping costs and geopolitical strains continue to weigh on trade flows.
According to the Department of Commerce, the scheme will continue to apply to exports from Domestic Tariff Area units, Advance Authorisation holders, Special Economic Zone units and Export Oriented Units. RoDTEP is designed to reimburse duties, taxes and levies built into exported goods that are not otherwise refunded, helping to reduce the domestic tax burden on Indian shipments abroad.
The government had already restored full RoDTEP rates earlier this year after a temporary tightening, citing freight pressures and trade risks linked to disruption in West Asia. The latest extension, first reported on 2 October by ANI, follows an earlier continuation that ran from 1 April to 30 September 2026, underscoring how the scheme has become a recurring lever of export support rather than a long-term settled policy.
Government data released in 2025 showed that RoDTEP covered more than 10,700 tariff lines and had disbursed more than Rs 57,976 crore by 31 March 2025. The scheme, which began on 1 January 2021, was widened in 2024 to include Advance Authorisation holders, export-oriented units and special economic zone units, which the Commerce Ministry said together accounted for about a quarter of India’s exports at the time. Officials also extended RoDTEP benefits to eligible postal exports from January 2026, opening the scheme more widely to small and medium-sized businesses, artisans and start-ups. Business Standard reported that the government has also extended the related RoSCTL scheme to the same date, reinforcing a broader effort to preserve export competitiveness.
