City of London Investment Trust continues steady share issuance through 2026

The City of London Investment Trust has increased its share capital with a series of modest, consistent allotments, highlighting sustained investor demand and a strategic approach to expanding its equity base amid a narrow pricing range.

The City of London Investment Trust has added another 100,000 ordinary shares to its capital, extending a steady run of equity issuance that has pushed the trust’s share count higher through 2026. The latest allotment was priced at 579.5p a share and leaves the investment trust with about 515.9 million shares in issue, according to the company notice carried by Kalkine Media.

The move follows a series of earlier issues this year. On 14 April, the trust allotted 225,000 shares at 572.5p each, lifting the number of ordinary shares in issue to 508.6 million. A week later, it placed 650,000 shares at 573p, taking the total to 509.8 million. These announcements suggest the trust has been tapping the market regularly rather than relying on a single large fundraising.

The pace quickened in June, when the trust issued 930,000 shares at 566p on 11 June, then a further 330,000 shares at 570p on 16 June. By 22 July, it had placed another 100,000 shares at 592p, bringing the total to 515.5 million. Taken together, the sequence points to continued investor demand and a gradual expansion of the trust’s capital base at prices that have moved within a fairly narrow range.
