The Life Insurance Corporation of India has opened applications for its Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme 2026, offering support to students from lower-income households who want to continue their studies after school. According to NDTV Education, the scheme can provide as much as Rs 50,000 a year, depending on the course, with applications due by September 30, 2026.
The scholarship is open to two groups of students. Those who passed Class 12, or an equivalent examination, with at least 60% in the academic years 2023-24, 2024-25 or 2025-26 may apply for the general scholarship if they have secured admission to the first year of an eligible course in 2026-27. LIC says the annual income of a parent or guardian must not exceed Rs 4.5 lakh. A separate special scholarship is available to students who passed Class 10 with at least 60% in the same academic years and have enrolled in the first year of Intermediate, 10+2, vocational, diploma or approved ITI courses.
The award levels vary by programme. Medical students can receive Rs 50,000 a year, while engineering students are eligible for Rs 40,000. Graduation, integrated, diploma, vocational and ITI courses attract Rs 20,000 annually, and the special scholarship for students after Class 10 is worth Rs 15,000 a year. For medical and engineering courses, LIC will pay the money in two instalments.
LIC will choose recipients on merit, subject to eligibility and income rules. If applicants have the same marks, priority will go to the student from the lower-income household. According to Careers360 and other education portals, applications opened on September 2 and must be submitted online through LIC’s official website. Selected students will need to complete document verification, and the scholarship will then be transferred to a verified bank account through NEFT.
