Indian shares rise on falling crude prices and positive global cues

Indian stock indices recovered on Monday, buoyed by softer crude oil prices, lower global bond yields, and positive overseas market sentiment, extending recent gains amid mixed sector performance and technical caution.

Indian shares recovered on Monday as softer crude prices, lower global bond yields and a steadier mood across overseas markets encouraged buyers back into Dalal Street after weeks of consolidation. By the close, the BSE Sensex had gained 564.03 points, or 0.76%, to 74,858.99, while the NSE Nifty 50 added 67.90 points, or 0.29%, to 23,414.30.

The main support came from oil. Brent crude eased to about $101.50 a barrel after a recent slide, easing some pressure on India’s inflation outlook and import bill. Analysts cited by Business Standard said the retreat in crude has helped calm risk aversion even though wider geopolitical tensions remain unresolved. Market participants also pointed to a fall in US Treasury yields, with the 10-year note slipping as traders awaited fresh signals from Federal Reserve officials.

Foreign inflows added to the lift. Moneycontrol reported that overseas investors turned net buyers, purchasing Indian equities worth ₹599 crore on Friday, while other reports said sentiment improved on hopes of further progress in US-China trade talks and possible diplomatic engagement involving Iran. That combination helped heavyweight sectors such as banking and information technology, even as the broader market showed some hesitation.

The advance was not evenly spread. NationPress reported that mid-cap and small-cap shares finished slightly lower, suggesting the rally was narrower than the headline index gains implied. On the technical front, Kotak Securities said the market remains in a short-term downtrend, but is now in oversold territory, which could leave room for a further rebound if the Nifty holds above key support levels.
