India’s insurance regulator cautions policyholders to avoid a fake website linked to a scam, as part of ongoing efforts to combat digital fraud and improve transparency in online insurance services.
India’s insurance regulator has warned policyholders to stay away from a website that appears to be posing as an official grievance portal, saying the site is not run by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India and is under investigation. In a Friday release, the regulator said the domain igmsirdai.online and its complaint form are not authorised IRDAI services, and it urged the public not to enter personal, policy, banking, KYC or one-time password details on it.
The warning fits a pattern IRDAI has been trying to stamp out for some time. In October 2025, it alerted the public to a fake website that copied the look of its consumer education portal and sought to collect payments and personal data. IRDAI has repeatedly said it does not collect premiums, settle claims or handle financial transactions through its websites, and it has urged people to check carefully before responding to calls, messages or web links that claim to be connected to the regulator.
The latest alert also comes after IRDAI tightened its focus on digital consumer protection more broadly. In July 2026, it ordered insurers to remove so-called “dark patterns” from websites and apps, meaning design tricks that can nudge customers into unwanted choices or make comparisons harder. That campaign reflected growing concern over online insurance sales and grievances, with the regulator seeking to make digital services clearer, safer and less misleading for consumers.
