Tata Consultancy Services secures a major five-year deal with Best Buy to manage its Bengaluru global capability centre, signalling a shift towards greater outsourcing of core digital operations and AI services in the retail sector.
Tata Consultancy Services has won a five-year technology services contract from Best Buy that will give the Indian IT group control of the US retailer’s Bengaluru global capability centre, according to The Times of India and other reports. The deal, which is said to be worth about ₹2,000 crore, moves TCS ahead of rivals including Accenture and Wipro after a competitive bidding process that reportedly rewarded tighter pricing, firmer service commitments and expected productivity gains.
The mandate covers Best Buy’s India operation as well as work in data, analytics and artificial intelligence, deepening an already existing relationship between the two companies. Best Buy’s Bengaluru centre, opened in 2024, is understood to house about 600 employees and was built as part of the retailer’s wider digital overhaul, with responsibilities spanning engineering, infrastructure, product management and operations.
The agreement comes as Best Buy continues to lean more heavily on technology and digital commerce, particularly in AI-enabled tools and platforms. The retailer reported revenue of $41.7 billion in its latest financial year, slightly above the previous year, helped by demand for computing and mobile devices. For TCS, the win underlines the growing importance of global capability centres, where large corporations increasingly outsource core technology work to partners that can combine lower costs with scale and specialised digital expertise.
