India’s EPFO set to introduce instant digital withdrawals with higher limits and UPI integration

India’s retirement fund body is upgrading its platform to enable faster, digital access to provident fund savings through UPI and ATMs, with increased withdrawal limits and simplified claims processing slated for rollout by June 2026.

India’s retirement fund body is moving towards a more immediate, digital way for members to tap provident fund savings, with reports pointing to an EPFO 3.0 upgrade that would allow withdrawals through UPI and ATMs, alongside a higher auto-settlement ceiling. Informalnewz said the new system is designed to make access to money faster and less paperwork-heavy for subscribers, particularly private-sector workers.

Several outlets have reported that the upgraded platform would let members withdraw as much as 75% of their provident fund balance through UPI or UPI-enabled ATMs, while keeping a quarter of the account as a minimum balance. They also say the process would reduce dependence on employer approval for many claims and make it easier for workers to get money when needed.

The biggest practical change appears to be the jump in the auto-settlement limit from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. According to the reports, that would speed up routine claims and cut waiting times sharply, with some articles saying funds could be released in as little as three days once the system is fully live.

Reports also say the roll-out is tied to a broader push to centralise records and simplify compliance. Members would reportedly be able to activate their universal account number through the UMANG app using face authentication, view passbooks, correct details and settle claims online. For now, some outlets say testing has been completed and the platform is awaiting an official launch, while others describe the move as part of a planned June 2026 rollout.
