The Andhra Pradesh government has set aside ₹2,693.90 crore to disburse social security pensions to nearly 62 lakh beneficiaries, reaffirming its focus on welfare programmes amidst sustained financial commitments.
Andhra Pradesh has set aside ₹2,693.90 crore to pay social security pensions to 61,92,396 people from 1 September, the state government said on Sunday, underscoring the scale of a welfare programme that remains one of its biggest recurring spending commitments. Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Kondapalli Srinivas said the administration had also released ₹2.51 crore for 6,268 newly approved beneficiaries in the spouse pension category.
The latest allocation follows a pattern of monthly disbursements under the NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme, which the government says is paid on the first day of each month. According to the state, it has so far spent ₹73,506 crore on the scheme. The programme, which was restored in June 2024 and is now administered through direct benefit transfers, covers a wide range of vulnerable groups, including older people, widows, disabled people and others eligible for higher support.
The announcement comes amid continuing emphasis by the Telugu Desam Party-led government on pensions as a core welfare measure. Last year, the state said the scheme had been reworked to provide higher monthly support, with rates varying by category. Earlier reporting by The New Indian Express showed the government had already been releasing pension funds on a similar scale in September 2025, when it allocated ₹2,746.52 crore for more than 63 lakh beneficiaries, highlighting the size and persistence of the programme.
