Axis Bank signals early support for Apple Pay ahead of India launch

Axis Bank appears to be preparing for support of Apple Wallet in India as reports suggest the service’s launch could be sooner than expected, ahead of the official October 2026 rollout.

Axis Bank appears to be moving ahead of Apple’s expected India rollout, after some cardholders reported seeing a terms-and-conditions page for Apple Wallet when they tried to add eligible cards. Users on Reddit and X said the page appeared for certain variants, including Select, Ace and Rewards, although the card enrolment still failed because the service has not officially gone live.

The development fits with wider reports that Apple Pay is due to launch in India by October 2026. Business Standard and other outlets have said the service would initially support Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, but not Unified Payments Interface, or UPI, which dominates everyday digital payments in India.

MacRumors reported earlier in the year that Apple was already in talks with major Indian banks, including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank, as well as with card networks Visa and Mastercard, as it prepared for an India debut. The latest reports suggest those discussions have continued, with Apple also said to be negotiating transaction fees with banks.

For now, the appearance of the Apple Wallet terms page is only a sign that preparation is under way, not that the service is live. Still, if Apple proceeds on the current timetable, Axis could be among the first banks to support Apple Pay in India, giving iPhone users a faster tap-to-pay option at NFC-enabled terminals in a market where Apple’s share of smartphone shipments has been rising.
