Iren Limited’s shift towards AI services, supported by major partnerships and a dual revenue model, keeps its bullish narrative alive amid market fluctuations and cautious near-term outlooks.
IREN Limited’s latest results did little to shake the bullish case around the company, even if the market’s reaction showed investors are still demanding faster proof that its artificial intelligence push can pay off. According to Seeking Alpha’s original article and recent coverage from MarketBeat, the stock has endured a rough stretch, but the broader thesis rests on a business in transition rather than one in decline.
The key point is that IREN is no longer being judged solely as a Bitcoin miner. MarketBeat reported that fiscal fourth-quarter revenue fell year on year, yet AI cloud revenue jumped sharply, underscoring the shift in the business mix. The company’s mining arm continues to generate cash, with one analysis putting the Bitcoin breakeven level at about $36,000, while AI-linked sales are now projected to reach as much as $250 million a year. That dual engine is central to the investment argument: mining funds the build-out, while AI infrastructure offers a much larger long-term prize.
That prize, however, is still mostly ahead of the company. MarketBeat said IREN expects contracted annualised recurring revenue to top $4 billion by year-end, helped by validation from Microsoft and NVIDIA, but management does not see sustained profitability until 2029 or 2030. For some investors, that timeline may be too distant, even if it supports the case that the business is building for scale rather than chasing near-term earnings.
The stock’s recent performance has reflected both excitement and volatility. Investing.com described 2025 as a year of sharp swings, with the shares surging from low single digits to above $75 before easing back. TipRanks also reported unusually heavy call-option trading ahead of the August 27 results, suggesting traders were positioning for a strong catalyst. Still, the more durable question is whether IREN can convert its low-cost, largely renewable power base into a lasting AI data centre franchise. If it can, the rerating may prove to be more than a speculative burst.
