Nikhil Kamath and Sreeram Reddy Vanga invest heavily in India's expanding data centre market

Nikhil Kamath and Sreeram Reddy Vanga have committed a combined ₹250 crore to CtrlS, signalling a heightened investor focus on India’s hyperscale data centre expansion amid surging demand driven by AI and cloud computing.

Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha, and entrepreneur Sreeram Reddy Vanga have put fresh capital into CtrlS, one of India’s better-known hyperscale data centre operators, in a bet on the country’s fast-growing digital infrastructure market.

According to Communications Today, Kamath has invested ₹200 crore and Vanga ₹50 crore, with the money earmarked for expansion of CtrlS’s facilities and overall capacity. The timing is notable: demand for data centre space is rising as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other digital workloads strain existing infrastructure across India.

CtrlS, founded by Sridhar Pinnapureddy, already serves enterprises, cloud providers, financial institutions and government bodies. The company has been building out a national footprint for years, positioning itself as a core utility for businesses that need reliable, large-scale computing power and storage.

The new backing comes as global and domestic investors increasingly target India’s data centre market. TechCrunch reported in June that Canada Pension Plan Investment Board committed up to ₹70 billion to CtrlS through a mix of equity and a joint venture aimed at developing hyperscale campuses. BrokerChooser said that broader funding package could support hundreds of megawatts of new capacity over the next few years, including expansion into smaller cities.

Kamath said the investment reflected his belief that data centres will underpin the next wave of technology adoption, including AI, cloud services and digital public infrastructure. Pinnapureddy said the partnership gives CtrlS room to think bigger and move faster as India’s digital economy deepens. The deal adds to a growing list of high-value bets on the infrastructure layer needed to support the country’s next phase of tech growth.
