India prepares to showcase its ambitious semiconductor ecosystem during SEMICON India 2026, highlighting government support, international participation, and a comprehensive full-value chain approach to become a central player in the global chip industry.
India will showcase its semiconductor ambitions in September when SEMICON India 2026 brings together more than 500 exhibitors from over 40 countries at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, according to the event’s organisers. The fifth edition of the conference, scheduled for September 17-19, will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is being positioned as a major gathering for the country’s chipmaking push. Organisers say the event is designed to connect manufacturing, design, supply chains, innovation and policy under one roof. The schedule also includes more than 150 speakers, six country pavilions, 10 state pavilions and dedicated areas for start-ups, skills development and new ideas.
The exhibition will cover about 18,000 square metres, according to the exhibitor guide, underscoring the scale of interest from domestic and overseas firms. The organisers say the theme, “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, reflects an attempt to move beyond chip fabrication alone and strengthen the full value chain, from raw materials and equipment to product design and advanced systems. A new “Sand to Silicon to Systems” experience will highlight India’s efforts to show capability across each stage of that chain.
The event is jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission, the electronics ministry and SEMI. In the release, Ashok Chandak, president of SEMI India and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association, said the level of participation shows confidence in India’s semiconductor journey. Ajit Manocha, president and chief executive of SEMI, said India is well placed to benefit from its pace, ambition and talent, and argued the country has the chance not merely to join the global supply chain but to become central to it.
That broader ambition has been backed by government support. According to the organisers, 12 projects have already been approved under Semicon 1.0, while the Union Cabinet has cleared Semicon 2.0 to speed up development of a stronger semiconductor ecosystem. The government has also provided advanced design tools to more than 332 academic institutes and 105 start-ups, with 24 start-ups approved under the Design Linked Incentive scheme. Alongside the exhibition, the programme will include international roundtables, a start-up pitch competition, a student hackathon and sessions focused on workforce development and investment.
