Several Indian small-cap stocks surged to their 20% upper circuit on Tuesday, reflecting heightened speculative interest across sectors such as power equipment, energy, software, and logistics, amid a fast-moving rally driven by sector-wide sentiment and momentum chasing.
Indian small-cap counters drew heavy buying on Tuesday, with 10 stocks surging to their 20% upper circuit as traders piled into names across power equipment, energy, software, packaging, leather, infrastructure, finance and logistics technology. In market terms, an upper circuit is the highest price a share is allowed to reach in a single session, and it often signals intense demand, although the trigger can vary from earnings momentum to sector-wide sentiment.
Among the more closely watched movers was Supreme Power Equipment, which designs power transformers and related electrical equipment. The stock rose to its upper limit on a market value of about Rs 577 crore, while Prabha Energy, an oil and gas explorer focused on coal bed methane, marginal gas fields and exploration blocks, also locked in gains before easing back from the day’s peak. Subex, the telecom software specialist known for revenue assurance and fraud management tools, likewise hit the ceiling before settling lower later in the session.
The list also included several smaller companies with niche business models. Hindustan Adhesives, part of the packaging space and linked to the Bagla Group, climbed on interest in its adhesive and packaging film operations. Super Tannery, the Kanpur-based leather maker founded in 1953, was bid up as well, while Shetron, which makes metal packaging products such as cans, caps and printed metal sheets, joined the rally. Steel Strips Infrastructures and Kamanwala Housing Construction, both tied to infrastructure and property activity, also hit the day’s maximum permissible rise.
Financial services and logistics names were not left out. Optimus Finance, a non-banking financial company with investments and trading exposure, moved sharply higher, and Shipwaves Online, which offers digital freight forwarding and logistics software, also touched the upper circuit. The moves underline how quickly speculative interest can gather around low- and mid-priced shares, particularly when investors chase momentum in sectors seen as having turnaround potential or operational leverage.
