Piyush Goyal aims to boost retail participation and industrial ecosystem growth in India

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal discussed strategies to expand retail investment, attract global capital, and accelerate industrial corridor projects during meetings with Nippon Life India AMC and industry stakeholders.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met Sundeep Sikka, managing director and chief executive of Nippon Life India Asset Management, on Monday to discuss ways to broaden retail participation in markets and strengthen India’s asset management industry, according to ANI. In a post on X, Goyal said the talks also examined how to bring more global capital into Indian markets and expand the country’s investment base.

The meeting came as the government continues to push for deeper domestic capital formation and a wider investor pool, with policymakers increasingly looking to mutual funds and other asset managers to channel household savings into productive investment. Goyal was also active on another economic front the same day, attending the third meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust, where he urged faster delivery of industrial corridor projects and a more outcome-focused approach to investment and operations, ANI reported.

At that meeting, Goyal called for industrial nodes to be planned in line with PM GatiShakti and developed through an integrated area-based model. He also pushed for stronger investor outreach, more targeted marketing of industrial zones and better use of free trade agreements to attract country-specific and sector-specific investment. According to ANI, the minister said new industrial ecosystems should be built with ready-to-use infrastructure, including plug-and-play facilities, flatted factories, worker housing and supporting social amenities, so companies can begin operations more quickly.

ANI said the industrial corridor programme now spans 20 approved projects across 13 states and seven corridors. Four smart cities , Dholera, Shendra-Bidkin, Greater Noida and Vikram Udyogpuri , have started production, while 469 plots covering about 5,348 acres have been allotted, with an estimated investment potential of Rs 2.21 lakh crore and jobs for about 1.29 lakh people. The agency said 134 units are already producing and 95 more are under construction.
