Hindustan Copper shares soar as global copper rally boosts earnings and outlook

Shares of Hindustan Copper surged over 8% amid a global rise in copper prices, driven by supply concerns and strong quarterly results, signalling a positive outlook for the sector’s growth.

Hindustan Copper shares surged on Monday after a rebound in global copper prices lifted sentiment across the sector, with the stock touching an intraday high of ₹574.90 before ending the session up 8.24% at ₹572.65, according to EquityPandit. The move reflected a broader bet among traders that copper supply may tighten as large volumes of the metal continue to flow into the US ahead of a possible tariff decision on refined copper imports, leaving less metal available elsewhere even as demand from China remains subdued.

For Hindustan Copper, the shift in prices matters because higher copper prices feed directly into earnings on every tonne the company mines and processes. That backdrop helped reinforce a strong recent run in the shares, which EquityPandit said have climbed more than 16% over the past month and more than 137% over the past year.

The stock’s momentum also comes against a sharply improved set of quarterly numbers. Hindustan Copper reported June-quarter net profit of ₹352 crore, up 162% from a year earlier, while revenue rose 81% to ₹937 crore. Operating EBITDA more than doubled to ₹508 crore, lifting margins to 54.19% from 41.05%, a sign that the company has been converting better realisations into stronger profitability.

There has also been movement at board level. On 14 August, the company named Ashish Kumar Khetan and Madhumita Daolagupu as independent directors. Separately, chairman and managing director Anupam Mishra said the company is aiming to raise metal-in-concentrate output to about 32,000 tonnes this year from 27,000 tonnes last year, with management focused on speeding up projects and mine development.
