Hinduja Group accelerates Rs 25 billion investment drive into Tamil Nadu’s clean energy and e-mobility sector

The Hinduja Group pledges Rs 25 billion to expand renewable energy and electric mobility initiatives in Tamil Nadu, signalling a significant push into clean transport infrastructure and digital solutions across the state.

The Hinduja Group has pledged Rs 25 billion to expand its footprint in Tamil Nadu, with plans spanning renewable power, electric mobility, financial services, battery-charging infrastructure and digital transport solutions. The announcement adds to a string of recent commitments by the conglomerate in the state and signals a broader push into clean energy and e-mobility.

According to the company’s plan, Hinduja Renewables Energy will look to develop more than 200 MW of capacity through solar, wind and battery-linked projects. The proposed sites stretch across Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore, although the company said execution will depend on land availability and grid connectivity support. The group also intends to expand OHM Global Mobility, which will deploy electric buses for public transport and deepen its wider mobility services business.

The latest pledge builds on Hinduja’s earlier EV commitment in Tamil Nadu. In September 2025, the group announced a Rs 7,500 crore investment in the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem, covering battery and cell manufacturing, battery energy storage systems and charging networks. That deal was part of the state government’s TN Rising investment drive, which was finalised during Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s visit to the UK and was said to have secured Rs 15,516 crore in total commitments.

Hinduja has been steadily building its mobility platform. Ashok Leyland acquired OHM Global Mobility in 2023 and committed fresh equity to support its rollout of electric mobility services, while earlier reporting in 2021 showed Siemens had struck a tie-up with the group on charging infrastructure technology. Reports in February 2026 also said the group was exploring a fund-raising round for OHM, underlining the scale of investment needed as it tries to expand pay-per-use electric bus operations and related services.
