Asia-Pacific accelerates crypto adoption amid regulatory patchwork, driven by India and Vietnam

The Asia-Pacific region emerged as the fastest-growing hub for crypto activity in 2025, with transaction values soaring 69%, driven by India, Vietnam and several other populous markets amid uneven regulation.

Asia-Pacific has emerged as the fastest-growing centre for crypto activity, with Chainalysis saying the region’s on-chain transaction value jumped 69% in the 12 months to June 2025, from $1.4 trillion to $2.36 trillion. The data point to heavy participation in large markets such as India, Vietnam and Pakistan, underlining how digital assets have moved well beyond niche use in parts of the region.

Chainalysis’ 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index placed India at the top of the world ranking, ahead of the United States, Pakistan, Vietnam and Brazil. Indonesia and the Philippines also featured in the top 10, suggesting that adoption is not limited to a single market but is spread across several populous economies with active retail participation.

The OECD’s Asia Capital Markets Report 2026 said the region has become a major force in global crypto-asset markets, also citing 69% year-on-year growth in blockchain-based transactions as of June 2025. It said high adoption in India, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Pakistan has been a key driver, while broader use of crypto-related financial services has helped support the expansion.

Vietnam has been singled out as one of the strongest performers. According to Chainalysis, the country’s crypto market value surpassed $220 billion, placing it third in Asia-Pacific. A separate report in the South China Morning Post said the region’s rise has come despite uneven regulation, with adoption continuing to accelerate even as oversight differs sharply from one market to another.
