The Hinduja Group commits an additional ₹2,500 crore to expand its electric mobility, charging infrastructure, and renewable energy projects in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant step in the state’s push towards a sustainable EV ecosystem.
The Hinduja Group has pledged a fresh ₹2,500 crore investment in Tamil Nadu as it deepens its push into electric mobility, charging networks and clean energy. The plan brings together electric buses, digital mobility services and automotive engineering, underscoring how the conglomerate is widening its footprint beyond vehicle manufacturing into the infrastructure needed to run an EV ecosystem.
According to the company’s announcement, OHM Global Mobility, the group’s e-mobility arm, intends to deploy electric buses for public transport across the state. The investment also covers battery charging infrastructure and related mobility services, which could help address one of the main bottlenecks in the shift from diesel fleets to electric ones: the availability of reliable charging and fleet support.
The new commitment builds on an earlier and larger agreement. In September 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the Hinduja Group would invest ₹7,500 crore in the state’s EV ecosystem, with plans spanning battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems and charging infrastructure. Reports at the time said the package was expected to create more than 1,000 jobs and was part of the state’s wider investment drive, known as TN Rising.
The group’s industrial plans in Tamil Nadu are also extending into batteries. Ashok Leyland, which belongs to the Hinduja Group, has begun work on a greenfield battery pack plant at Pillaipakkam near Chennai, with investment estimated at ₹400 crore to ₹500 crore. Separately, Hinduja Renewables plans more than 200 MW of solar, wind and battery projects across districts including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore, linking mobility growth with a broader clean-power base inside the state.
