BSP introduces 24-hour security window for eDollar to fight online fraud

Bank of South Pacific has implemented a new 24-hour security delay for eDollar users to detect unauthorised access, offering enhanced protection amid rising digital scams in the Pacific region.

BSP has added a 24-hour security window for eDollar users in an effort to curb unauthorised access and limit the damage caused when login details are stolen. The bank said the new safeguard is designed to slow down fraud attempts if a customer’s credentials are used on another device.

Omid Saberi, BSP’s chief information officer, said customers will be alerted whenever their eDollar wallet is opened on a new device. If the access was not authorised, he said, they should contact the bank at once. The delay is intended to give customers time to spot suspicious activity before any transactions can be carried out.

The move comes as banks across the Pacific continue to push digital services while trying to counter increasingly common scams. BSP already offers round-the-clock online banking and Smart ATMs for payments, transfers, balance checks, PIN resets and statement requests, underlining how much of its customer service now happens outside branches.

Alongside the new protection, BSP is warning customers about phishing messages and fake websites that seek passwords, user IDs and one-time passwords. The bank says it will keep strengthening security on its digital platforms, but customers also need to play their part by safeguarding personal banking information and avoiding suspicious links.
