Assam LPG consumers face last-minute deadline for biometric e-KYC to retain subsidies

Domestic LPG users in Assam must complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification by August 16 to maintain subsidised cooking gas, with authorities urging swift action amidst ongoing supply stability.

Assam’s domestic LPG consumers have until August 16 to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification if they want to avoid complications with subsidised cooking gas, according to local reporting and government-backed guidance on the wider nationwide exercise. The process is being used by public sector oil marketing companies to confirm genuine beneficiaries and weed out duplicate or fraudulent connections.

Officials and distributors have been telling consumers that those who do not complete verification could eventually be shifted on to non-subsidised pricing. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said the biometric check is meant to improve transparency and curb diversion of LPG, but it has also clarified that the requirement applies only to customers who have not already completed e-KYC.

Consumers can finish the verification free of charge either online or in person. IndianOil users can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas customers can use Hello BPCL, and HP Gas users can use HP Pay or HP Gas; Aadhaar FaceRD may also be needed for face authentication. Alternatively, the process can be completed through delivery personnel using biometric authentication or at an authorised distributor with Aadhaar and consumer details.

In Assam, Indian Oil Corporation has said there is no disruption to domestic or commercial LPG supply and that production is continuing normally at the state’s refineries. The company also said a large majority of consumers in the state have already adopted the e-KYC system, while officials continue urging the remainder to act before the deadline to avoid last-minute difficulties.
