A developer has created Suraksha Saathi, an AI voice assistant in just ten days to help Indian families identify and prevent scams, leveraging low-latency speech technology and real-time interaction enhancements.
A developer has described how he built an AI voice agent designed to help families spot scams before money is lost, turning a simple starter template into a Hindi-speaking assistant in ten days. The project, called Suraksha Saathi, was built for the Voice for Bharat challenge and was intended to let an older relative check suspicious messages by speaking naturally into an app rather than waiting for help from a younger family member.
The system is built around a fast voice loop: speech recognition, language reasoning, and speech output, connected through LiveKit for real-time conversation. Murf AI says its Falcon text-to-speech model is built for low latency, with roughly 55ms model inference and 130ms end-to-end response time, which helps voice agents feel more like a live call than a delayed automated system. LiveKit’s own documentation shows that Murf can be used as a TTS provider inside LiveKit Agents through its Python integration.
The creator said the first challenge was making the agent sound natural in Hindi. Early versions read the language awkwardly, so he tightened the output rules to use Devanagari script only and added guardrails so the assistant would never ask for an OTP or make unrealistic safety claims. He also replaced generic audio visualisers with a glowing diya animation, using the lamp as a visual metaphor for bringing light to scams.
Other additions made the project more practical. The assistant can remember repeat callers, but only after asking for consent first. If the conversation suggests someone is actively at risk, the system can alert a human fraud team in the background while continuing to calm the caller. The developer also added a dashboard to track scam patterns and a handoff system that can switch from a friendly voice to a stricter fraud-investigator persona without dropping the call.
