EPFO to hold live Q&A to clarify pension benefits and address unclaimed savings

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation will host a live session on August 18 to directly address members’ questions on pension claims, benefits, and unclaimed funds, amid ongoing efforts to streamline digital services and clarify complex rules.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation will hold a live pension question-and-answer session on 18 August, giving members a chance to raise issues directly with its experts as scrutiny of retirement savings and benefits remains high. According to the announcement shared on social media, the programme will begin at noon and will be streamed across EPFO’s official channels on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

The session is expected to focus on pension claims, eligibility, benefits and the Employees’ Pension Scheme, commonly known as EPS. That comes at a time when many savers still struggle to navigate EPFO rules, from how pension calculations work to when provident fund balances continue earning interest after retirement. Livemint recently explained that interest does not stop automatically at retirement; rather, it can continue until an account becomes inoperative, depending on the member’s age and whether the money has been withdrawn.

Questions about pension rights are particularly relevant given the scale of unclaimed savings sitting in dormant accounts. Livemint reported that ₹9,330.56 crore was lying in inoperative EPF accounts as of 31 March 2026, underscoring how many people still have not transferred or claimed their money. EPFO says members can use its digital channels or approach regional offices for help, but the live event is being positioned as a more direct way to get guidance from officials.

The organisation has also been widening its use of digital tools and service campaigns to speed up delivery and reduce friction for members. That includes recent efforts to improve compliance and settlement processes, as well as a doorstep service for pensioners to submit digital life certificates without visiting a bank or EPFO office. Against that backdrop, the 18 August session looks like another attempt to make the pension system easier to understand for workers and retirees alike.
