BDO Unibank intensifies its anti-scam campaign targeting elderly Filipinos amid increasing scams using phone calls, texts, and fake links, urging vigilance and secure banking practices.
BDO Unibank is widening its anti-scam campaign to reach older Filipinos, as banks and consumer groups warn that seniors are increasingly being targeted by fraudsters who use phone calls, text messages and fake online links to steal money and personal data. The Sy-led lender said its foundation and Fraud Management Unit recently held a scam-awareness session with Barangay Bel-Air in Makati, where participants were briefed on how to spot common fraud tactics and safeguard sensitive information.
The bank urged seniors not to click on suspicious links, disclose account details or one-time PINs, and to confirm any request through official BDO channels. That advice matches the lender’s wider StopScam guidance, which warns customers about phishing emails, vishing calls and smishing texts, and tells them to avoid unsolicited links and protect their credentials. BDO also stresses that it will not ask clients to provide confidential information through messages or calls.
The campaign sits within a broader fraud-prevention effort that combines technology, account-security tools and public education. On its security pages, BDO advises customers to monitor statements for unauthorised transactions, create strong passwords, and lock cards through the BDO Online app if they are lost or stolen. The bank said: “Fraud prevention is a shared responsibility,” adding that informed communities are an important line of defence against scammers.
