Beeline’s AI crackdown on scam callers gets more engaging with new virtual personalities

Beeline has expanded its anti-fraud ‘cyberfamily’ with new AI characters designed to keep scam callers occupied, demonstrating innovative use of conversational bots to combat fraud in Russia.

Beeline has expanded its anti-fraud “cyberfamily” with new artificial intelligence characters designed to keep scam callers busy rather than letting them reach real customers. According to IXBT News and Beeline’s own materials, the line-up now includes “CyberGrandfather”, “CyberMother”, “CyberFather” and other personas, bringing the total to 10 voices and characters.

The company says the virtual responders are built to sound like genuine people, sustaining long conversations that drain fraudsters’ time and attention. Beeline said the system handled 3.9 million unwanted calls in July and more than 1 million in the first week of August, with scammers spending almost 39,000 hours speaking to the bots. Each interaction can generate a character with its own personality, work routine and interests, and repeat callers within five hours may be matched with a familiar voice.

The move builds on Beeline’s broader push to make fraud protection available by default. In February 2025, the operator introduced a basic version of its Virtual Assistant for all subscribers across Russia, free of charge, to block spam and fraudulent calls. Company data cited by ComNews and CNews showed that in January the assistant blocked 28 million spam calls and intercepted 14 million fraud attempts, while also handling 14.8 million calls when customers could not answer. Beeline says analysis of conversations helps identify common scam patterns, with impersonation of military enlistment offices accounting for 27% of attacks, delivery-related pitches for 17% and fake calls from state or law enforcement agencies for 16%.
