Small finance banks in India offer top fixed-deposit rates exceeding 8% for Rs 10 lakh investments

Small finance banks in India are leading the charge with fixed-deposit rates reaching up to 8.10%, offering attractive alternatives for savers seeking higher returns amidst conservative private and public sector lenders.

Small finance banks are offering the most attractive fixed-deposit returns in India for investors looking to place Rs 10 lakh, with rates reaching as high as 8.10% as of August 2026, according to market data cited in the reports. For savers seeking steady income rather than market-linked gains, the gap between the highest and lowest rates can make a meaningful difference over time, particularly for older investors relying on fixed interest payments.

The strongest offers are coming from Suryoday Small Finance Bank and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, both quoted at up to 8.10%, while Shivalik Small Finance Bank, Jana Small Finance Bank and Equitas Small Finance Bank are listed at up to 8%. Livemint reported in April 2026 that smaller lenders were already outperforming larger banks on deposit rates, and later comparisons from July 2026 point to the same trend, with Suryoday still leading the pack. Other small finance banks, including Ujjivan and Slice, are also paying competitive rates, though slightly below the top end.

Private banks remain more conservative. DCB Bank is offering up to 7.50%, while Bandhan Bank is at 7.45% and IDFC FIRST Bank at 7.25%. Larger private lenders such as Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are mostly clustered around the mid-6% range. Public sector banks are lower still, with Punjab & Sind Bank and Bank of India among the better-paying state-owned lenders at 6.85%, followed by Central Bank of India and Bank of Baroda at 6.75%.

Foreign banks operating in India are also trailing the small finance banks on returns, with Deutsche Bank cited at 7%, Standard Chartered at 6.60% and HSBC at 5.50%. Analysts quoted in the reports suggest that investors with Rs 10 lakh should consider spreading deposits across more than one bank to stay within the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation cover of Rs 5 lakh per depositor per bank. That approach, they say, can help balance safety with the higher yields now being offered by smaller lenders.
