Bajaj Finserv launches gold loan calculator to aid borrowing estimates amid fluctuating gold prices

Bajaj Finserv introduces an online gold loan calculator designed to help borrowers estimate their potential loan amount more accurately before applying, factoring in gold purity, weight, and current prices amidst market fluctuations.

Using a gold loan calculator can give borrowers a clearer idea of how much they may be able to raise before they apply, reducing guesswork at a stage when accuracy matters. Bajaj Finserv says its online calculator is designed to estimate an eligible loan amount by taking into account the weight and purity of the pledged gold, along with the prevailing gold rate and the loan-to-value ratio used for the product.

The process is straightforward. A borrower enters the weight of the jewellery, ornaments or eligible gold coins in grams, then selects the purity, which may range from 18-karat to 22-karat jewellery and, where permitted, up to 24-karat gold coins. Depending on the version of the calculator, the user may also enter a preferred loan amount or repayment tenure. The tool then gives an approximate figure, which can help households plan borrowing needs before approaching a branch.

Bajaj Finserv says the estimate is based on the lower of the previous day’s closing price or the 30-day average closing price for the relevant purity, using data published by the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association or a SEBI-regulated commodity exchange. That means the amount shown online is only an indication, not a final sanction. The lender confirms the exact loan after checking the weight, purity and eligibility of the gold during valuation.

That distinction matters because gold prices move regularly, and the final amount can change from day to day. Borrowers also need to consider fees and other charges separately. Even so, the calculator can be a useful first step for anyone who wants a faster sense of their likely borrowing capacity and a more realistic picture of what a gold-backed loan may deliver.
