Consumer durable stocks hit new peaks on strong earnings and demand forecast

Shares of consumer durable companies surged to a 52-week high on Friday, led by LG Electronics India’s record results and optimistic outlook, signalling robust growth prospects in India’s expanding appliance market.

Consumer durable shares drew strong buying interest on Friday even as the wider market stayed subdued, with LG Electronics India climbing 10% to a record high after it reported its June 2026 quarter results. Voltas and Bata India rose about 4% each, while Havells India, Amber Enterprises, Dixon Technologies and Titan Company also traded higher. The Nifty Consumer Durable index touched a 52-week peak of 40,749.25 during the session, extending a three-month rise that has outpaced the benchmark Nifty 50.

LG Electronics India’s results helped drive the move. According to the company’s earnings disclosure, revenue increased 15.5% year on year to ₹7,234 crore, led by gains in home appliances and home entertainment. Operating performance also improved, with EBITDA margins rising to 12.5% and profit after tax increasing 27% to ₹654 crore. ICICI Securities said the company had shown an ability to protect margins despite volatile commodity and currency conditions, helped by a better product mix and price discipline.

The company’s management said profitability had risen faster than sales because of a stronger premium mix, better operating leverage and tighter cost control. It added that televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines all contributed to growth. LG also said it expects demand to hold up through the festive season, supported by a broader premium television line-up and momentum in other categories. The company has guided for continued growth in FY27 and is pursuing a ₹5,000 crore expansion at Sri City that should nearly double capacity and support exports.

The upbeat tone around LG came against a broader backdrop of encouraging demand signals across the sector. Voltas said in its annual report that India’s room air-conditioner market still has low household penetration and could benefit from rising disposable incomes, urbanisation and more frequent heat waves. In a separate report, Voltas said it sold a record 1 million air-conditioner units in the June quarter, reinforcing the strength of cooling demand. Business Standard also noted that the latest rally in consumer durable stocks came as the broader Q1 earnings season has started on a solid note, with several companies posting double-digit growth in profit and sales.
