Gold prices in India experienced a modest decline on Friday, reflecting global currency movements and central bank reserves, with international factors influencing local rates.
Gold prices eased in India on Friday, with FXStreet’s daily reference rate showing a modest decline in both gram and tola terms. The benchmark price slipped to INR 13,265.91 per gram from INR 13,343.67 on Thursday, while the rate per tola fell to INR 154,733.00 from INR 155,637.90 a day earlier.
FXStreet said it calculates the local Indian prices by converting international gold values into rupees and the relevant weight units, then updating the figures each day using market rates at the time of publication. The site also noted that the numbers are for reference only and that local retail prices can vary slightly depending on the market and dealer.
The move fits a wider pattern in which gold remains closely watched as a store of value, a hedge against inflation and a potential refuge during periods of market stress. FXStreet’s background material says central banks are the largest holders of gold and have continued to add to reserves in recent years, with the World Gold Council reporting record annual buying in 2022. It also points out gold’s tendency to move inversely with the US dollar and US Treasury yields, meaning currency and interest-rate expectations can have a major influence on the metal’s price.
