The Adani Group has engaged in high-level discussions with Odisha officials to develop large-scale solar, pumped storage, and nuclear projects, signalling a significant step in the state’s pursuit of 11 GW renewable capacity by 2030.
Karan Adani met Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday as the Adani Group stepped up talks on clean energy investment in the state. According to the company’s account of the meeting, discussions at Kharavel Bhavan centred on pumped storage plants, large-scale solar generation and nuclear power as Odisha looks to strengthen long-term energy security and improve grid stability.
The meeting brought together senior state energy officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, OPTCL chief Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma and GRIDCO managing director Satyapriya Rath. The Adani Group said it remains interested in investing in Odisha’s clean energy sector and has proposed two power plants of 3,000 megawatts each, a combined 6,000 megawatts that would add significant carbon-free capacity if the plan advances.
The talks also reflect Odisha’s broader push to become a major clean energy destination. The state has set a target of 11 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030 and has been courting investors across solar, wind, hybrid power and pumped storage, according to recent reporting by Business Standard and The Print. At the Odisha Renewable Energy Investor Conclave 2026, the state secured investment commitments of Rs 67,000 crore for nearly 6.8 gigawatts of renewable capacity, India Tribune reported.
Singh Deo, who oversees both agriculture and energy in the Odisha cabinet, has repeatedly highlighted the need to expand transmission and support infrastructure alongside generation, according to official state information and his recent public remarks. The latest meeting suggests that Odisha’s clean power drive is moving beyond policy ambition towards project-level engagement, with large private-sector players signalling interest in the state’s next phase of growth.
